STAFF POSITIONS:
Library Assistant – 2 positions
General Description
The Library Assistant will report to the Principal Librarian and the Associate Principal Librarian to help provide for the day-to-day functioning of the library. The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) librarians also provide library services for the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra (CPO), Cincinnati May Festival, and Cincinnati Opera. Each Library Assistant will work up to 18 hours per week.
Qualifications
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have or will be working towards a degree in music. Prior professional orchestra library experience is very desirable. The successful candidate will also be proficient with attention to details; will be able to prioritize tasks, efficiently produce neat work, consistently meet deadlines, and will be able to work independently. Also essential are excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to the responsibilities of the CSO/CPO Library. The successful candidate must be reliable, prompt, and must respect sensitive or confidential information. Knowledge of performance practices, composition, music theory, foreign language music terms, and computer systems is also highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of music for all CSO, CPO, May Festival, and Cincinnati Opera rehearsals and performances. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Editing and proofing
- Measure numbering
- Marking rehearsal letters
- Marking cuts
- Preparing and breaking down orchestra folders
- Preparing inserts
- Fixing page turns
- Photocopying
- Assist in all preparation of Cincinnati Opera music, including checking PVs against full scores, marking cuts and inserts, and working with banda parts
- Catalog and file CSO/CPO sets and new works
- Ship rental music to publishers and maintain shipping records
- Record timings of performances in card catalog and OPAS
- Assist in maintaining the Music Director’s guest conducting library
- All other duties as assigned
